Dawson vs. Stevenson & Gamboa vs. Perez Recap

By Real Combat Media Correspondent, Tom Mauriello

Montrael,Canada (June 9th,2013)–Adonis “Superman” Stevenson (21(18 Ko’s)-1) proves that he is not a joke as he knockouts “Bad” Chad Dawson (31(17 Ko’s)-3) for the WBC Light Heavyweight Championship on HBO in the first round. Stevenson shocked world as he landed a huge left hand that sent Dawson crumpling down to the ground. Dawson looked to come and attack Stevenson but was met with the brutal left hand that sent him home early.

Dawson’s corner argued the referee’s stoppage, but Dawson was out of it and showed the ref nothing which even resembled him being able to continue.
This sets up a huge matchup in the light heavyweight division as Stevenson will be next in line to challenge for another title, by possibly facing the winner of Jean Pascal – Lucian Bute. Another option would be a possible move down to 168 where he could challenge the likes of Carl Froch. Either way, Stevenson has earned himself a solid pay day with his most impressive victory as a pro.

Yuriorkis Gamboa (23(16 Ko’s)-0) defeats undefeated prospect Darleys Perez (28(19 Ko’s)-1) in a very boring 12 round decision. Gamboa found himself on the canvas in the9th, but was ruled a slip by the official. Gamboa is the most frustrating fighter in boxing. He is inactive, and inconsistent. He fights bum’s and does not even make it interesting. I have lost all interest in him and anyone that associates themselves with 50 Cent. Fight a top name or don’t fight at all Gamboa, you are a ESPN Friday night Fights guy, not a co main event on a major show.
