Las Vegas, Nevada ( March 6th, 2013)– Lorenzo Fertitta announced that UFC Middleweight World Champion Anderson Silva, 38, (33-4) will be facing undefeated Chris Weidman, 28, (9-0) at UFC 162 on July 6th according Long Island reporter, Mark La Monica.Mark La Monica and MMA Weekly confirmed the news.
“Dream come true,” Weidman told Newsday. “Ever since I’ve been fighting, Anderson Silva has been the champion and I’ve been visualizing beating him. Now I have the opportunity. I have to make the most of it.”
The Baldwin, New York native is a very dangerous fighter and has key wins over Mark Munoz, Demian Maia, Tom Lawlor, Alessio Sakara and KO of the Year candidate, Uriah Hall. He is definitely the number one contender at 185lbs. based on that resume. Weidman is also was an All American wrestler at Hofstra University.
Anderson Silva has never been defeated in the UFC and is coming off TKO wins over Stephan Bonnar and Chael Sonnen. Anderson is also Real Combat Media MMA Rankings #1 Pound for Pound fighter and has won all his 16 fights in the UFC.
RASHAD EVANS VS. DAN HENDERSON
Rashad Evans (17-3-1) vs. Dan Henderson (29-9) is set for June 16th at UFC 161 at MTS Center in Winnipeg, Canada. Both fighters are coming off close decision losses. Evans has lost 2 fights in a row to Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and Jon Jones. Dan Henderson lost a close split decision to Lyoto Machida at UFC 157 a few weeks ago.
UFC officials also confirmed Antonio Rogerio Nogueira vs. Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and Sao Palelei vs. Stipe Miocic will also be on the UFC 161 Card.
The main event has not been announced yet.
