Back with a Vengeance: Ediane “India” Gomes faces Hiroko Yamanaka
“When faced with tough competition Hiroko has always come up short”
December 10, 2012
PRESS RELEASE (Miami, FL)- After a first round submission win over Katalina Malungahu at Invicta 3, Ediane “India” Gomes (9-2) will stand toe-to-toe with Hiroko Yamanaka (12-2) in a featherweight bout on Saturday, January 5th, 2013 at Invicta 4. On a three fight win streak, Gomes is looking to maintain her #6 Featherweight Ranking with a win over Yamanaka, currently ranked #7 in the world and coming off a loss against Germaine De Randamie.
Yamanaka may prove to be a difficult opponent for Gomes. She’s experienced in stand-up as well as wrestling and grappling, all of which will be good defenses against Gomes’ predominately jiu jitsu style. “I’m not concerned,” indicated Gomes. “When faced with tough competition Hiroko has always come up short. I will keep my #6 World Ranking.”
Gomes recently signed a 3-fight deal with the all women’s fighting organization Invicta. “It is great to be part of such high caliber women fighters,” said Gomes. “I want to make a name for myself in this sport and Invicta will give me the platform to do that.”
With seven of her nine wins ending by Submission and only one by KO, Gomes indicated she is looking for a KO this time around. “I’ve been working a lot on my stand-up. I want to prove I can fight just as good on my feet as I can on the ground,” said Gomes.
Gomes trains at world renowned American Top Team under head coach Ricardo Liborio and is represented by ML Management.
Gomes’ fight at Invicta 4 will take place Saturday, January 5, 2013 at Memorial Hall in Kansas City, KS. Follow Ediane on Facebook @EdianeIndiaGomes or on Twitter @indiagomesmma.
