After an approximately forty minute delay in which Manny’s focus and readiness were questioned, Max Kellerman conducted several interviews inside both dressing rooms, and the HBO broadcast team had to kill a lot of otherwise dead air, the fighters finally made their way to the ring. The stated cause of the delay was Manny needing to stretch his calves. Eventually the fighters made their way to settle the matter in the ring.
The early rounds saw both fighters going back and forth. Although Bradley showed determination and character, it was clear early on that Pacquaio’s power was dominant early on and would be effective throughout the fight.
Through the first third of the fight Pacquio’s power was the main factor. His straight left hand consistently hurt Bradley. The two fighters engaged throughout the fight but Manny’s power would be the main factor throughout. Manny seemed to take the first minute or two of each round off and then start letting his punches go towards the end of the rounds.
At the end of the fifth round Bradley’s corner asked him if he wanted to continue, asking him about his foot. He pressed on. Bradley was a game challenger who most observers thought fell short. Ultimately, the judges saw something unique. The scores were 115-113 Pacquaio, 115-113 Bradley, and 115-113 Bradley.
Both fighters were gracious in the post-fight interviews. Bradley said that he would have to watch the tapes and see what happened. He expressed a willingness to have a rematch.
Harold Lederman scored the fight 119-111 for Pacquaio. This writer agrees. Tonight was a disgrace to the sport of boxing. There will most likely be an immediate rematch according to Top Rank.
