WBC Abner Mares(23-0-1-13KOs) is returning to the ring after back to back victories over Joseph Agbeko. The first Agbeko fight made Mares the Showtime bantamweight tournament winner and picked up the IBF bantamweight title along the way. Now he will be attempting to conquer another division. Mares faces Eric Morel(46-2-23KOs) for the WBC super bantamweight championship.
Eric Morel is a former WBA flyweight champion who is trying to resurrect his career after serving a two year prison stint for sexual assault. The bout can potentially become dull because of Morel’s retreating style. Expect Mares to really work for a victory and maybe go the extra mile. Although Morel has won 11 straight fights, there are no recognizable names and he is 10 years Abner’s senior. Mares can become a player in the super bantamweight division with a victory.
