Paul Williams UD victory vs. Nobuhiro Ishida

By: Scott Canipe

Paul Williams (40-2, 27 KOs) is looking to rekindle his career with a dominating win over Nobuhiro Ishida (24-6-2, 9 Kos). Williams is coming off of a lackluster performance against Cuban Erislandy Lara and a previous devastating TKO loss to Sergio Martinez. Ishida, on the other hand, is the man who upset the exciting James Kirkland in April 2011.

Rd 1 – Both men are feeling each other out. Williams looking to land with authority. He catches Ishida with some good straight left hands. Ishida landing with some counter left hooks.

Rd 2Paul Williams looks like he may lose his trunks. The referee needs to stop the action momentarily so he can pull his trunks up. LOL! Good infighting and nice exchanges by both men. Ishida is starting to land more and more counter punches. Good counter right hand by Ishida!! Williams continues to press forward with volumes of punches, but he does leave himself open after he throws his left hand and Ishida capitalized a couple of times.

Rd 3Paul Williams comes out firing hard combinations! Williams is looking to make statement in this fight. William is doing a lot in this fight based off his right jab. His jab is very accurate and very quick tonight. But he continues to lunge with his left hand. Then all of a sudden he nails Ishida with a straight left hand! Williams is starting to dominate this fight. Excellent right hand followed by a left hook thrown by Ishida that nails Williams right on the button!!!

Rd 4 – Excellent left hook by Ishida! Followed by another left hook by Ishida! Williams is much more busy however, Ishida appears to be more accurate with his shots. Very good counter right hand by Ishida! Now Williams has Ishida on the ropes and works him.

Rd 5 – Williams comes out smoking at the beginning of the fifth round! Heavy shots by Williams as he sits down trying to hurt Ishida. Ishida is game but he is getting outgunned! Excellent right jab followed by a HARD left hand by Paul Williams!

Rd 6 – Good head movement by Paul Williams as he avoids Ishida’s combinations. He is simply overwhelming Ishida with volume punches. Excellent bodywork by Paul Williams and then he rips uppercuts to the head of Ishida. Wow, Ishida fires back! Ishida still looking to counter Williams. Wow! Nice action!

Rd 7 – Williams continues to measure Ishida with his jab. Paul Williams is the epitome of a volume puncher! His accuracy though is only around 25%. Excellent left uppercut by Paul Williams!!

Rd 8 – Furious punches and bodywork by Paul Williams! He is trying to take Ishida out, however he’s just not that accurate. Ishida is very tough and has a few counterpunching successes, but he is just overwhelmed by the work rate of Williams! Nice right hand by Ishida! If Ishida had just a little more power he could seriously hurt Paul Williams with that straight right hand.

Rd 9 – This is a total domination by Paul Williams at this point. He is averaging around 80 punches per round, but in the ninth round he appears to be a little more measured and his output is lower. Crisp double right hands by Paul Williams, one to the body followed by one to the head. Ishida must knockout Paul Williams to win this fight.

Rd 10 – Although Paul Williams is considered a volume puncher, in this fight he is placing his punches well without reckless abandonment. He does need to improve his accuracy though. Quick one-two by Paul Williams that lands and Ishida comes back with a one-two of his on. Great inside work with Paul Williams as he rips uppercuts and hooks to the body of Ishida.

Rd 11 – Both Ishida and Williams come out firing in the 11th round. Ishida realizes he must knockout Paul Williams to win this fight and he putting forth a noble effort. Ishida doesn’t have great defense, but he is a good counterpuncher. They’re going toe to toe and it’s tit for tat! Excellent action from both gladiators!

Rd 12 – Both men get off their stools and come straightforward unloading heavy shots on each other! Excellent action! Ishida is tagging Paul Williams with effective counter right hands. But William fires right back! WOW! These guys are going at it with 40 seconds left in the fight. Incredible, they continue to trade up until the last bell. This is total domination for Paul Williams.

Scores are in: 120-108, A complete shut out for Paul Williams! Williams improves to 41- 2. The Jr. Middleweight division is stacked with a lot of talent and this is where Paul Williams belongs.
