Could Cotto vs Mayweather Jr. Happen On May 5th?

By: Frank Rivera

Miguel Cotto will be making an announcement pertaining too who his next opponent might be. Speculation is that WBC Welterweight Champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. will be that opponent and that the fight will take place on May 5 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The decision will come within the next few days.

Cotto, no longer with Top Rank and is now a free agent, he has had several meetings with his “former” promoter Bob Arum for a possible rematch with Manny Pacquiao, but no agreement has been able to be reached. This left the door open for Cotto to talk with Floyd Mayweather Jr. of a possible fight.

It is being reported that Golden Boy Promotions, who is well known to do business with Mayweather Jr., apparently made a very lucrative offer to Cotto after talks of making the mega fight failed between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao earlier this month.

Jose Sulaiman, the WBC President, announced in Mexico that Floyd Mayweather Jr and Manny Pacquiao will happen in November but not in Vegas or Dallas but in Qatar, United Arab Emirates.

If what Jose Sulaiman says is true, then Cotto vs Mayweather Jr is a possibility for May 5th in Las Vegas, Nevada. Now, let us all remember that nothing is set in stone but we will find out within a few days what is really going to happen, hopefully putting an end to the merry-go-round of names being thrown around.
