London, UK (November 19th, 2025)– East London’s gritty former ABA British amateur champion, later BBBofC and British Commonwealth Middleweight champion, middleweight and super middleweight Mark Kaylor, best known for his epic battle with Errol Christie, died in California at age 64 on November 16, 2025.

Fighting out of the Terry Lawless table in Royal Oak, Kaylor posted a professional record of 40 wins, seven losses, and one draw with 34 knockouts between 1980 and 1991. In November 1985, Kaylor knocked out Errol Christie in the eighth round of a European EBU Middleweight title eliminator Wembley bout marred by prefight hype and racist fans in Kaylor’s favor, with Christie receiving death threats, triggering bad blood between the two. After the bout, the two forgave each other, and the animosity of the moment was forever forgotten. His two European Middleweight title bouts with Tony Sibson (1984) and Herol Graham (1986) were unsuccessful. Christie retired after a loss in 1993 and passed away at age 53 from lung issues in 2017.

Kaylor attempted to win the EBU Light heavyweight title from Tom Collins at Wembley in 1988, the EBU Super Middleweight title from Mauro Galvano in Italy in 1990, and the European Super Middleweight title again against James Cook in 1991, his final bout. Kaylor was unsuccessful in these bouts, making his record 0-5 for EBU title challenges at 160, 168, and 175 bouts.

Kaylor was disqualified in the ninth round of a Wembley bout in 1983 with Tony Cerda for hitting after the bell. “Back then, I had a quick temper that I’d rather not have had,” Kaylor said in 2012. “There was always this spark in my head. Today, I’m embarrassed by it. Errol was a nice guy. There is no way I could behave like that now.” Kaylor stopped Cerda in the sixth round of a 1986 Wembley rematch. Kaylor is survived by his wife, Patricia. In recent years, Kaylor worked as an aerobics instructor in Chino Hills, California.
