Los Angeles, CA (November 2nd, 2025)– The Jake Paul versus Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis, a highly promoted, high-stakes Netflix exhibition scheduled for Friday, November 14, 2025, is in jeopardy. Former World Boxing Council World Lightweight champion Ryan Garcia reportedly received an offer from Jake Paul’s MVP Promotions to step in on late notice to replace Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis. Garcia was immediately ruled out by promoter Oscar De La Hoya, who has other plans for Garcia.
MVP Statement:
“Most Valuable Promotions immediately initiated an investigation upon learning of the civil lawsuit filed against Gervonta Davis in Miami-Dade County on Oct. 30, 2025,” MVP said in the statement. “At this time, we are gathering information and reviewing the details to ensure any decision we make is thoroughly vetted. We unequivocally condemn any form of violence and are committed to handling this matter with diligence and respect for all involved.
“We will make a determination on next steps once we have completed our review and consulted with the appropriate parties. Until then, we will not be commenting further.”
World Boxing Council welterweight champion Mario ‘El Azteca’ Barrios, 29-2-2, 18 knockouts, San Antonio, Texas, and Garcia, 24-2, 20 knockouts, Los Angeles, California, are close to a deal for a fight in early 2026. Mike Coppinger reported on X the contracts are now being exchanged between Ryan’s promoters at Golden Boy for DAZN, and Barrios’ handlers at PBC for the fight. Barrios is coming off a 12-round majority draw against 46-year-old Manny Pacquiao on July 19, 2025, in Las Vegas. Garcia is coming off a 12-round title decision loss to WBA World Welterweight champion Rolly Romero in New York City in May 2025.
According to Mike Coppinger on Ring Magazine online, Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix first reported that Paul’s next fight could shift to December, Garcia and Crawford were approached as possible replacements. December 12, 2025, and December 19, 2025, are the two dates in play if Jake Paul versus Tank Davis is scrapped.
Oscar De La Hoya, Garcia’s Golden Boy Promotions CEO and promoter, says a fight with Jake Paul is impossible due to their different broadcast deals. “I wake up to calls from reporters asking about Jake Paul and Ryan Garcia. Let me tell you why this fight isn’t going to happen. Ryan Garcia fights for DAZN, and Jake Paul fights on Netflix. I mean, that’s pretty much the bottom line. Golden Boy has a contract with DAZN, and Ryan Garcia has a contract with Golden Boy, and that’s just the way it is. I mean, this is business. Ryan Garcia is probably going to go on a rant, saying you’re keeping me from making money and this and that. No, you have to go by the law and by the rules. You have a contract with DAZN and Golden Boy. It doesn’t happen that way. Ryan Garcia’s next fight will be announced by me, who he’s fighting,g and when he’s fighting next.”
