
Mateusz Masternak Wins EBU, Cecilia Braekhus Wins WBC WBO & Retires, Louie O’Doherty Shines

In the main event of a six bout card at Nosalowy Dwor, Zakopane, Poland, on Saturday evening, October 4, 2025, Polish cruiserweight champion and former cruiserweight world title challenger Mateusz Masternak regained the EBU European Cruiserweight title he won in 2021 but lost to Grigory Drosd in 2013, did not regain it against Tony Bellew in 2015, and regained it from Youri Kayembre Kalenga in 2018, with a seventh-round knockout over Joel Tambwe Dejeko, 19-4-1 with nine knockouts, Ilford, Essex, United Kingdom by way of Belgium. Masternak, age 38, 50-36 with 33 knockouts, Wroclaw, Poland, is making yet another run for a shot at a share of the world cruiserweight title.
On Saturday, October 4, 2025, The ‘first lady’ of boxing, Cecilia Braekhus, 39-2-1 with nine knockouts, Bergen, Norway, by way of Colombia, won the female World Boxing Council and World Boxing Organisation World Super Welterweight titles with a 10 round unanimous decision, two minute rounds, over Ema ‘The Princess’ Kozin, age 26, 24-2-1 with 12 knockouts, Ljubljana, Slovenia. Scoring went three different ways: 98-92, 97-93, and 96-94, all for Braekhus. The older, more experienced Braekhus had been inactive 14 months,and Kozin had been inactive for 23 months. Braekhus, age 44, has 30 world title bouts of experience. Kozin has 13 world title bouts of experience, but it was the issue of the greater inactivity that worked against defending champion Kozin in this bout, worthy of a rematch. Cecilia Braekhus retired after the bout.
Four important bouts took place on Saturday evening, October 4, 2025, on an 11 bout card at Braehead Arena, in Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom. In the main event, southpaw 17-0 WBC Silver Featherweight champion Nathaniel ‘The Nightmare’ Collins, of Bearsden, Scotland, drew over 12 rounds with 20-0-2 EBU European Featherweight champion Cristobal Laurente of Barcelona, Cataluna, Spain. Scoring went: 114-114 draw, 115-113 Laurente, 115-113 Collins.
In the preliminary bout to the main event, Louie O’Doherty, 11-0 with three knockouts, Halstead, Essex, United Kingdom, won the vacant BBBOFC Lightweight title with a tenth-round stoppage at 2:33 of Regin Glackin, 16-1 with three knockouts, Glasgow, Scotland.
In a battle of British light heavyweight prospects, Willy Hutchinson, 19-2 with 14 knockouts, Carstairs, Scotland, a former WBO interim world champion, stopped Mark Jeffers, 20-2 with seven knockouts, Chorley, Lancashire, Scotland by way of Northern Ireland, Uited Kingdom, at 2:15 of the seventh. Jeffers appeared to be still competitive when his corner threw in the towel, however, he seemed to be fading in the bout at that particular moment.
Aston Brown, 9-0 with four knockouts, Glasgow, Scotland, won the vacant BBOFC Celtic Middleweight title, with a second-round stoppage at 1:36 of veteran Paul Kean, now 19-5 with two knockouts, Dundee, Scotland, United Kingdom, a former IBO Continental and Irish Celtic champion.
On the undercard, Steve Collins Jr., 15-6-4-1 with four knockouts, Castlerock, Ireland, who turned pro with no amateur experience, son of the former WBO Middleweight and Super Middleweight World champion Steve Collins, lost a six-round decision to 4-2-2 Javier Santana of Grenada, Andalucia, Spain by way of the Canary Islands.
On the undercard, light heavyweight Alex Arthur Jr., son of former British, European and WBO interim World Super Featherweight champion Alex Arthur, went to 2-0 with a four round unanimous decision over 1-2-1 Gregzorz Mardyla of Krakow, Poland, winning every round 40-36.
Super welterweight prospect Drew ‘White Sugar’ Limond, 5-0 with two knockouts, Glaskow, Scotland, age 19, related to former WBU World Lightweight champion Willie Limond, scored a fourth-round stoppage of Alexeyv Mikhail Arellano Leon.
