New York, NY (July 12th, 2025)– On July 12, New York will once again be the site of a huge battle night organized by The Ring Magazine. In the main bout, Hamzah Sheeraz will face off against an assured Edgar Berlanga. DAZN will broadcast the battle and the event.

After losing in his September bout against Canelo Alvarez for the undisputed super middleweight title, Berlange (23-1) is working his way back up. With 18 knockout victories, the two-time amateur medalist has won twice.

A triumph may possibly result in another encounter between Berlanga and Canelo. The 28-year-old is convinced by the hype surrounding him and is prepared to make a statement on the night of the bout.

Berlanga stated, “He [Sheeraz] has to go through me first. Right now, I’m looking forward to July 12, the night I’m most excited about.” He continued, “There’s a lot in the future and a lot of big fights to be made, but like I said, this weekend I have to f— this m—–f—– up.” That’s it, and then we go ahead.

In February, Berkshire’s Sheeraz (21-0-1) engaged in a contentious tie with Carlos Adames for the WBC middleweight championship. In addition to competing in the United States for the first time, the former Commonwealth and European champion is prepared to shine in a new weight division.

A prodigy seeks to build on his ascent in the sport, while a multi-division champion serves as the co-headliner on the undercard of Edgar Berlanga vs. Hamzah Sheeraz.

William Zepeda vs. Shakur Stevenson
Weight/Division: Light
Stevenson’s record is 23-0.
Zepeda’s record: 33-0
The WBC lightweight championship is at stake.

In the co-main event, William Zepeda will challenge Shakur Stevenson for the WBC lightweight title.

With a victory over Edwin De Los Santos, Stevenson (23-0) won the WBC championship. The 27-year-old, a multi-division champion with a distinctive defensive-like attack, defeated substitute opponent Josh Padley in February after Floyd Schofield was forced to withdraw.

Prior to facing Tevin Farmer in November for interim gold, Zepeda (33-0) defeated Joseph Diaz and Maxi Hughes. Farmer was defeated by the man who had 27 knockout victories, and he kept the belt in a rematch this past March.

Subriel Matias vs. Alberto Puello
Weight: Super Lightweight
Puello’s record is 24-0.
Matias’s record: 22–2
On the line are the WBC super lightweight championship belt.
Subriel Matias is competing for the WBC super lightweight championship against Alberto Puello.

After a PED suspension in 2022, Puello (24-0) was named champion-in-recess, although he had won the WBA super lightweight title that year. To establish his position as the full-time champion, he defeated Sandor Martin in a tight bout and Gary Antuanne Russell for the interim WBC title.

In 2023, Matias (22-2) captured the IBF super lightweight championship. In 2024, the Puerto Rican competed at home for the first time since 2019, when he lost the title to Liam Paro. At the age of 33, he has finished every bout by knockout and is currently riding a two-fight victory streak.

Imam Khataev vs David Morrell
Weight/Division: Light Heavyweight
Morrell’s record is 11-1.
Khataev’s record is 10-0.
There are no belts up for grabs.

Imam Khataev is up against David Morrell. Morrell (11-1), a two-time amateur gold medalist, is a former light heavyweight champion and super middleweight champion of the WBA (Regular). In his most recent bout, which took place in February, the 27-year-old man was defeated by the powerful David Benavidez and lost the second belt.

Khataev (10-0), a bronze medalist at the 2020 Olympics, last competed in a match a month ago. Despite having nine knockout victories, the Russian recently failed a drug test, and it is unclear what his status is for the match even though he is only prohibited from IBA boxing.

Isiah Rodriguez vs. Reito Tsutsumi
Weight/Division: Super Featherweight
Tsutsumi record: 1-0
Rodrigues has a 3-3 record.
The stakes are: N/A
Reito Tsutsumi will square off against Isiah Rodrigues later in the match.

Tsutsumi, a Japanese prodigy and ambassador for The Ring, took home gold at the 2021 Youth World Championships. At the Times Square card in May, he made his professional debut and prevailed. Rodrigues (3-3) is 2-2 in his previous four games.

Plac Hoff vs. Mohammed Alakel
Weight/Division: Lightweights
Morrell’s record is 4-0.
Khataev’s record is 2-3-1.
