Oliver McCall Fights to a Bizarre Draw at Age 60

By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent

Nashville, Tennessee (June 4th, 2025)–   Shades of Jack Johnson. Former World Boxing Council World heavyweight champion Oliver McCall, age 60, now 31 years removed from his rematch loss to Lennox Lewis refereed by Mills Lane, fought to a bizarre heavyweight six round split draw with Carlos Reyes, age 48, in the opening bout of a seven bout card at Texas Troubadour Theatre in Nashville, Tennessee, on Tuesday night, June 3, 2025.

It was the first record draw in the 76 professional bout career of ex-champ McCall, 61-14-1 with 40 knockouts, Corpus Christi, Texas. The southpaw Reyes, a loser of 13 previous consecutive bouts coming in, is now 7-17-3 with five knockouts, Phoenix, Arizona.

The bout was bizarre because it appeared the Oliver McCall corner did not know what round it was after round four, and acted as if they had expected it was to be a four-rounder instead. McCall covered up defensively the last two rounds without throwing a punch, yet somehow qualified for the draw based on his offensive performance over the first four rounds.

McCall landed some heavy left hand lead power shots and short uppercuts to win the first round. McCall landed some punches late in rounds two, three and four. Reyes did well enough in those rounds, plus won rounds five and six, to somehow earn the controversial split draw.

Result: Oliver McCall Drew in Six Rounds with Carlos Reyes, Heavyweights
Scoring: 58-56 McCall. 58-56 Reyes. 57-57 Draw.

Video Highlights

Former World Heavyweight champion Shannon ‘The Cannon’ Briggs, age 53, was ringside for McCall’s latest comeback with Reyes, with the Triller TV commentary team suggesting a ‘heavyweight legends bout’ featuring McCall versus Briggs could be a future possibility.
