Los Angeles, CA (June 6th, 2025)– On Monday June 2, 2025, at its monthly meeting, the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) unanimously voted to overturn Emanuel Navarette’s technical decision win over Charly Suarez in his fourth defense of his World Boxing Organisation World Junior Lightweight title to a No-Contest, after camera footage of the bout from a different angle showed Suarez had landed a legal punch on Navarrete which caused a bloody cut over the left before the two accidentally clashed heads. Suarez had five days to appeal the outcome, and did so successfully.
The bout, which took place in Pechanga Arena in San Diego, California, on May 10, 2025, had been originally declared a technical decision win for Navarrete at one second of the eighth round. The scorecards had Navarrete ahead 77-76, 77-76, and 78-75 at the time.
The WBO and Top Rank have ordered an immediate rematch. 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympian Suarez, 18-0 with 10 knockouts, Manilla, Philippines, and Navarrete, 39-2-1 with 32 knockouts, San Juan Zitlaltepec, Mexico, will have to wait for Navarrete to heal and be medically cleared to return first.
