Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (March 4th, 2025)– Former welterweight contender Carson Jones, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, a sparring partner of Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, who fought two epic battles with Kell Brook, and scored major upsets over Tyrone ‘One Round’ Brunson and Brian Rose, has died from complications after throat surgery at age 38.

Fighting between 2024 and 2023, Jones compiled a professional record of 44 wins, 16 losses and three draws, with 32 knockouts, with two No Contests. Jones debuted with a fourth round stoppage of Sheldon Mosley at the Gaillardia County club in Oklahoma City. In December 2009 at Chumash Casino, Jones exposed the 21-0-1 record of Tyrone ‘One Round’ Brunson, who had opened his career with 19 consecutive first round knockouts, stopping him for the first time in three rounds. In December 2015 at Winter Gardens Blackpool, Jones won the vacant WBC International Super Welterweight title, exposing 26-3-2 Brian Rose at 2:37 of the first round. Jones fought two memorable bouts with Kell Brook in 2012 and 2013, the first a controversial 12 round majority decision loss. Jones also held victories over Said Ouali and Ricardo Williams Jr. Jones fought at 147 and 154 pounds, and both fought for and won various regional belts during his 19-year career.

Jones had overcome alcohol dependency and, starting in 2022, had won three of four comeback bouts. Jones discovered in January 2025 that he was suffering from achalasia, a rare swallowing disorder, and underwent surgery in an attempt to correct the condition. “This man was a true warrior, and it was a pleasure sharing the boxing ring with him,” former world welterweight champion Kell Brook posted on social media after learning of Jones’ passing. “My heart goes out to the Jones family. RIP, my beautiful brother.”
