Kubrat Pulev Wins WBA Heavyweight Title, Outpoints Manuel Charr

Sophia, Bulgaria (December 11th, 2024)– An ageless Kubrat ‘The Cobra’ Pulev has become the mandatory challenger for the winner of Tyson Fury versus Oleksandr Usyk II undisputed world heavyweight title match coming up, with a 12 round unanimous decision win over Mahmoud Charr to win the World Boxing Association World Heavyweight regular title on December 7, 2024, at Sofia Arena in Sofia, Bulgaria.
Pulev, 32-3 with 14 knockouts, Sofia, Bulgaria, fighting in his hometown of Sofia, using left hand leads over the top, combined with left hand hooks to the body, and frequent holding, to score points and win the bout over the game Charr, age 40, 34-5 with 20 knockouts, Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Charr had a good defense and tried brawling in center ring throughout, but more often than not got tangled up and held by Pulev before he could get his offense going.
“I’m happy. I’m ready for everybody!” noted Pulev after the bout, his third consecutive win since losing a split decision to Dereck Chisora in 2022, and first world title win after turning pro in September 2009 with a second round stoppage of Florian Benche. Pulev’s previous world heavyweight title bout challenges against Wladimir Klitschko and Anthony Joshua were unsuccessful. If the winner of USYK versus Fury II refuses to fight Pulev next in 2025, Pulev could be looking at a fight next with WBA number one contender and NABF and WBO International Heavyweight regional champion Martin Bakole, 21-1 with 18 knockouts, Airdrie, Scotland, United Kingdom, by way of the Democratic Republic of The Congo.
