Riyadi, Saudi Arabia (May 8th, 2024)– In a stunning new boxing development, unbeaten but unknown Malik ‘The Trigger’ Zinad, 22-0 with 16 knockouts, Pieta, Malta, by way of Tripoli, Libya, a former IBO Inter-Continental and WBC Mediterranean Light Heavyweight regional champion, will replace the injured Artur Beterbiev and fight Dmitry Bivol, 22-0 with 11 knockouts, Indio, California by way of Kyrgyzstan, for the World Boxing Association and International Boxing Organization World Light Heavyweight titles held by Bivol, in Riyadi, Saudi Arabia on June 1, 2024.

Zinad, the International Boxing Federation number two worldwide contender at 175 pounds, fought most recently at Hordern Pavilion in Sydney, Australia, on April 24, 2024, winning a 12 round majority decision over 18-0 Jerome Pampellone, a British fighter now fighting out of Auckland, New Zealand, to win the IBF eliminator for the number two ratings position.

With the win over the previously undefeated Pampellone, Zinad is currently ranked ninth in the world at light heavyweight on BoxRec. Zinad is in fighting condition, and will have three and a half weeks to train for the one in a lifetime opportunity of a lifetime to fight Bivol. Zinad will be a decided underdog to score the major upset. Hats off to Zinad for taking the bout, and Bivol for agreeing to fight another challenger. The WBA and the IBO will have to sanction the challenger. Given his status as the BoxRec worldwide number nine contender and the IBF number two at light heavyweight, Zinad is worthy of the opportunity.
