Filipino Bantamweight Kenneth Egano Dies at Age 22 after Winning Eight Rounder

General Santos City, Cotabato del Sur, Philippines, (May 11th, 2023)– After coming off the canvas from a knockdown to win the first eight rounder in his eight bout professional career by eight round unanimous decision over undefeated Jason Facularin, Filipino bantamweight prospect Kenneth Egano, 7-1 with three knockouts, General Santos City, Cotabato del Sur, Philippines, collapsed after the end of the bout as the scores were being read in his favor on May 6, 2023, at Imus Sports Center, Imus, Philippines. Scoring went 77-74, 76-75, and 76-75 for Egano.

Egano then fell into a coma due to a brain hemorrhage on ‘Blow by Blow’, a weekly Filipino boxing show promoted by former multiple division world boxing champion Manny Pacquiao. Despite Pacquiao paying Egano’s medical bills, and paying for flights so the boxer’s parents could attend to their son after surgery at Imus Doctor’s Hospital. Only four days after the bout, tragically, Egano died from his injuries on Wednesday, May 10, 2023. Egano’s passing was announced by the Filipino Games and Amusement Board. Egano fought eight pro bouts since debuting in December 2019, winning a four round decision over Jaype Palca Santos in Digos City.

Manny Pacquiao, in an official statement, noted “There is nothing more precious than human life. Boxing is truly a dangerous sport. and the boxers deserve nothing but respect. as they put their lives on the line. Other sports you play, but you don’t play (when you are a boxer engaged inside the ring in professional) boxing.”
