RAMLA ALI NAMED TO TIME’S 2023 WOMEN OF THE YEAR LIST RECOGNIZING EXTRAORDINARY LEADERS FIGHTING FOR A MORE EQUAL WORLD

Somali Olympian and unbeaten pro honored for her community work

TIME named Ramla Ali to the 2023 TIME Women of the Year list, recognizing 12 extraordinary leaders fighting for a more equal world. The full list and related tributes appear in the March 13 / March 20 issue of TIME, available on newsstands on Friday, March 10, and now at time.com/women-of-the-year.

Ali, a UNICEF ambassador, began the Sisters Club in 2018 a nonprofit that offers boxing lessons to women who don’t usually enjoy access to the sport: those from ethnic or religious minority backgrounds, as well as survivors of domestic abuse. There are four locations in London, and having opened in Los Angeles, Ali will add a second American location in Fort Worth, Texas soon.

Ali is flying inside the ring too, with TIME interviewing the Somali Olympian in the build-up to her last action where Ali comfortably outpointed Avril Mathie to land her first pro title, the IBF Inter-Continental Super-Bantamweight strap.
