Lyndon Arthur Outpoints Late Sub Boris Creighton after Suarez Fails Prefight Medical Exam
By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent
Bolton, UK (March 25th, 2023)– Light heavyweight contender Lyndon Arthur, scheduled to fight Argentina’s Braian Nahuel Suarez for the vacant International Boxing Organization World Light Heavyweight title at University of Bolton Stadium, Bolton, United Kingdom, on Friday, August 24, 2023, scored a 10 round decision win instead over late substitute challenger Boris Creighton, after Suarez failed the prefight medical physical exam after the weigh-in.
Arthur, 22-1 with 15 knockouts, Manchester, United Kingdom, was supposed to fight Suarez, 18-1 with 17 knockouts, Hurlingham, Buenos Aires, Argentina, however Suarez failed the prefight physical.
Suarez was previously knocked out at Casino Buenos Aires by undefeated Alberto Ramirez in June of 2022, but had a comeback third round stoppage win over Mauricio Roberto Caceda on cuts in Paso Del Rey, Argentina, in January 2023. Suarez was regarded as a safe opponent for the IBO world title bout. No word on the cause as to where Suarez failed the physical exam.
Creighton, 10-2 with seven knockouts, Aberdeen, Scotland, United Kingdom, a former sparring partner of Arthur in 2020 and 2021, got a call in his yoga class in Aberdeen, and took the bout confidently as a last minute opponent on 30 hours of notice, believing he could win. Creighton started well, landing a big right hand which wobbled Arthur and had Arthur in trouble early, but Arthur recovered well. Arthur’s right hands began to score and pile up points as the rounds wound on. An Arthur right hand caused a cut under Creighton’s left eye in the eighth round. With less than ten seconds left in the ten rounder, Arthur dropped Creighton to seal the win with a big 10-8 round. One judge had it close 96-93 for Arthur.
The IBO World Light Heavyweight title will remain vacant. Creighton weighed 179 ½ pounds, while Arthur weighed 182 ½ pounds. This was the second weigh-in for Lyndon Arthur (after Suarez). As Crighton was over the 175 pounds light heavyweight limit, as was Arthur, the bout went off at cruiserweight.
Result: Lyndon Arthur Win 10 Boris Creighton, Cruiserweights
Scoring: 99-91, 98-92, 96-93 for Arthur. Creighton down in tenth round.
