The Truth! Double or Nothing Jake Paul and Tommy Fury Personal Wager A Boxing First

By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent

Diriyah, Saudi Arabia (February 25th, 2023)–    The truth! Jake Paul vs. Tommy Fury Weigh-in & Betting Odds The bout is now winner gets both purses winner take all.

At Thursday’s press conference, attended by older brother Tyson Fury, Paul, one of today’s top social media icons in professional sports, succeeding in baiting Tommy Fury into agreeing to a ‘daring do’ double or nothing bet. Tommy accepted the challenge. This now means whoever loses the bout, Paul or Fury, will have to pay the winner twice the amount of their final paycheck from the event, after those paychecks are received by both combatants.

The concept of double or nothing as a bet has always existed in forms of gambling and games of chance. The concept of double or nothing as an official bet is not something the odds makers and the bookies have as an established bet procedure. Paul, 6-0 with four knockouts, Dorado, Puerto Rico, has defeated four professional debuts and one winless fighter, before defeating 47-year-old former MMA star 3-1 Anderson Silva. Fury, 8-0 with four knockouts, Manchester, Lancashire, United Kingdom, has defeated six fighters with losing records, and has also defeated two fighters with winning records of 2-0 and 10-1 respectively.

Here are some critical analyses of both. Paul went eight rounds with Silva. Tommy Fury has never gone eight rounds. Both Paul and Tommy Fury have records majority padded with opponents of the caliber of marshmallow fluff. In the case of the 10-1 and now 10-2 Daniel Ocianski of Poland whom Tommy Fury beat in Wembley Stadium in April 2022, all ten of Ocianski’s wins come over opponents with losing records. In the case of 2-0 now 6-2 Jordan Grant of Hamilton, Scotland, whom Fury beat at Telford International Centre in June 2021, all six of Grant’s wins come over opponents with losing records. Grant was knocked out at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow in June 2022 by 12-1 fellow Scotsman John Docherty.

Paul’s entire game, then and now, is based on social media publicity and prefight hype. The concept of a double or nothing wager, and Paul also calling out former world champion Carl Froch as his next opponent if he beats Tommy Fury reflects a confidence which also translates to the current odds. Caesars Sportsbook lists Paul as the -$170 favorite (a bettor risks $170 to win $100), while Fury is the +$145 underdog (a bettor risks $100 to win $145) in the latest Jake Paul versus Tommy Fury betting odds. The over/under for total rounds completed is 6.5, with the over earning -$160 and the under at +$125. From this reporter’s viewpoint, neither fighter is worthy of either a BoxRec or a WBC top 40 world ranking at cruiserweight with a win here, based on their pro records and quality of limited opposition.
