David Benavidez vs. Caleb Plant is Official

Las Vegas, Nevada (January 20th, 2023)– The 168-pound contenders, who have exchanged heated trash talk on social media for the past few years, will face off on pay-per-view March 25 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, sources have confirmed to Real Combat Media Boxing.

The matchup will feature the Nos. 2 and 3 ranked super middleweights against one another, after undisputed champion, Canelo Alvarez.

Benavidez (26-0, 23 KOs) already is a former two-time world titleholder at 26, having lost his belts first by testing positive for cocaine and then by missing weight.

The Phoenix native is a skillful pressure fighter who generally breaks down and then stops his opponents his exceptional hand speed. David has knocked out his last six opponents, the last one being David Lemieux in May of 2022.

Many boxing fans believe that Benavidez would be the toughest challenge to Canelo Alvarez among the 168-pounders.

Caleb Plant (22-1, 13 KOs) also is a former super middleweight titleholder. He lost his belt to Canelo Alvarez by an 11th-round TKO last October, a fight in which he gave a solid effort before the stoppage.

Plant is known as a slick boxer who rebounded from the loss to stop Anthony Dirrell with a single left hook in in the ninth round in October which was a 2022 Real Combat Media Boxing Knockout of the Year candidate.

This will be the first time David Benavidez has been on a main event on a PPV.
