Hall of Fame Bantamweight and Featherweight Champion Eder Jofre of Brazil Dies at 86

Sao Paulo, Brazil (October 7th, 2022)– Former World Bantamweight and Featherweight champion Eder Jofre of Brazil, the only Brazilian boxer ever inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame, has died of pneumonia in his native Sao Paulo, Brazil, at age 86.

 Jofre represented Brazil in amateur boxing in the 1956 Olympic Games. Boxing professionally between 1957 and 1976, Jofre’s professional record was 72 wins, two losses (to Fighting Harada in world title bouts) and four draws. After boxing, Jofre entered politics, and served as an alderman in Sao Paulo. Jofre held the undisputed World Featherweight title, and also held the lineal and World Boxing Council World Featherweight title.

 A vegetarian and physical fitness fanatic, Jofre came out with a calisthenics video at age 74. Jofre was voted the sixteenth greatest boxer of all-time by the international Ring Research Organization, and is ranked 85th on Ring Magazine’s list of the top 100 punchers of all time.
