Dancing Shoes! Southpaw African IBF Super Bantamweight Champion Bongani Mahlangu, Peaking at Age 42

By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent

Boipatong, Gauteng, South Africa (July 7th, 2022)– His nickname is ‘Dancing Shoes’. Now, at age 42, International Boxing Federation Continental African Super Bantamweight champion Bongani Wonder Boy Mahlangu is on the rise after a hard fought 16 years career, at age 42.

Mahlangu, 24-9 with 12 knockouts, Boipatong, Gauteng, South Africa, began his career by winning a four-round decision in December 2006 in Durban, South Africa, over Ntobeko Duma. Mahlangu’s nine losses consist of nine questionable decisions with some possible robberies, including four split decisions and one majority decision loss.

Mahlangu has fought his career between bantamweight and super featherweight primarily in Africa, sometimes in Europe, but is naturally best at super bantamweight. Having risen to a rank of 21 on BoxRec at an advanced age, Mahlangu could be a possible IBF challenger for a world title bout against IBF and WBA World Super Bantamweight champion Murajon Akhmadaliev of Uzbekistan. What remains to be seen is if such a hard-working fighter as Mahlangu will receive a world title opportunity at his age, at this point in his career.
