Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko addressed the Munich City Council today, Kyiv’s sister city Munch, Germany today in German, urging the countries of Europe to help stop the war to prevent further bloodshed. “You cannot be half pregnant! On one hand, you (Germans) support Ukraine. On the other hand, you are trying to stay friendly with the Russian Federation, and are trying to maintain a good relationship with them at the same time. The situation is to be viewed in black and white. You either support Ukrainian Democratic values, or you stand on the side of the aggressor. Every single politician needs to understand. It (our current situation under siege) is a matter of life and death!”
Ukrainian troops forced Russian forces out of the Kyiv suburb of Makariv after a fierce battle, Ukraine’s Defense Ministry said. The regained territory allowed Ukrainian forces to retake control of a key highway, and block Russian Federation troops from advancing to surround Kyiv from the northwest. However, the Defense Ministry said Russian forces battling toward Kyiv were able to partially take the other Kiyiv northwest suburbs of Bucha, Hostomel and Irpin, under continuous attack since Russian Federation military special forces invaded Ukraine almost a month ago. The defense ministry’s territorial statements were partially contradicted by Mayor Klitschko.
Mayor Klitschko, in a separate interview in a central park overlooking the city, to the sounds of explosions and gunfire, stated Russian Federation forces have killed 264 civilians, including four children, in Kyiv since the conflict began last month. Klitschko said battled were being fought in Liutizh, a village 20 miles north of Kviv, and Ukrainian forces have regained control of areas northeast and northwest of the city, including most of Irpin, and the western town of Makariv.
