Anaheim, CA (January 23, 2o22)– In the MMA main event of UFC 270, Francis “The Predator” Ngannou, 17-3 with 12 knockouts, Paris, France unified his UFC World Heavyweight title over interim titleholder Ciryl Gane, 10-1 with four knockouts, Paris, France, with a five-round unanimous decision after 25 grueling minutes, in the televised main event, January 22, 2022, at Honda Center in Anaheim, California.

A second-round body slam by Ngannou in the second round enabled him to take control of the bout. Ngannou stated after the bout he tore his MCL, and injured his ACL. Gane, who briefly trained with Ngannou early in his career, appeared to win the first two rounds. In the third, fourth and fifth rounds, Ngannou took Gane down to the mat, where he largely pounded on him as the aggressor for the final fifteen minutes to edge out the decision. It was the first career loss for Gane.
