Jordan Thompson

UK Cruiserweight Jordan Thompson Real Combat Media KO of  the Month For October 2021

By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent

Unbeaten but still relatively untested and unknown Manchester cruiserweight prospect Jordan Thompson, 11-0 with nine knockouts, Manchester, Lancashire, United Kingdom, landed the knockout of the month for October 2021. The punch occurred at 02 Arena in Greenwich, United Kingdom on October 30, 2021.

The Thompson opponent, 6-5 Piotr Podlucki of Warsaw, Poland, even at 6’2″ looked like a midget next to Thompson’s 6’6″ frame which had to be taller as Thompson towered over Podlucki. Unfortunately for Podlucki, the first round was anything but lucky, and Podlucki did not make it out of the first round though he came close.

There were a number a clinches, with Podlucki swinging wildly. Podlucki, who had lost four consecutive decisions coming in, figured to get lucky as Thompson was inactive for over two years. Ring rust was not Thompson’s issue. Thompson’s immediate issue was to find the range for his jab. It was actually a Thompson straight left jab, followed by a crisp pinpoint short right hook to the head, which sent Podlucki down to the canvas knocked out for the full ten count at 2:52 of the first round.

Thompson is monster sized, and clearly deserving of better opposition at this point in his career, if he can get it going again during the Coronavirus pandemic period. Thompson looks like a slightly lighter version of Great Britain’s David Haye. Unlike Haye, Thompson looks to be a cruiserweight of Bridgerweight prospect at 199 to 206 pounds. Thompson is perfect for the cruiserweight division. Lawrence Okolie did it in the UK and found himself a world title at cruiserweight, and now Thompson will have to rise up through the ranks. Thompson has the tools and potential. He just needs to bring his game to the next level.
