MANNY PACQUIAO OFFICIALLY RETIRES FROM BOXING

Los Angeles, CA (September 29th, 2021)– For nearly three decades, since 1996, the legendary Manny Pacquiao 62-8-2 overall record (39 KOs) entertained the fans in the ring, and always gave the fans their money worth.

With a Presidential run in the Philippines now in his immediate future, Pacquiao has announced his official retirement from the sport of boxing. Here is what Manny had to say…

“To the greatest fans and the greatest sport in the world, thank you,” said Pacquiao on his social media page. “Thank you for all the wonderful memories.”

Pacquiao suffered a close UD loss in his final ring appearance against Yordenis Ugas. Originally he was supposed to fight the champion, Errol Spence Jr., but Spence Jr. had to withdraw from the fight from an eye injury that he suffered in training.

Pacquiao delayed his announcement because he was considering an immediate rematch with Ugas.

The story of Pacquiao is filled with courage and adversity. Growing up in the Philippines, Pacquiao struggled with extraordinary poverty.  With the odds of against him of climbing out of poverty, he eventually found the sport of boxing and would go on to etch his name in the record books as one of the greatest boxers the sport has ever seen.

Pacquiao won titles in eight separate weight classes, along with impressive wins against Juan Manuel Marquez, Keith Thurman, Tim Bradley, Miguel Cotto, Joshua Clottey, Lucas Matthysse, Erik Morales, Oscar De La Hoya, Marco Antonio Barrera and many other great fighters. Manny also holds the record with the most PPVs sold in his UD loss against undefeated Floyd Mayweather in 2015. Pacquiao also became the oldest Welterweight champion ever when he defeated the undefeated Keith Thurman in 2019.

Later in his career, he turned his attention more and more towards political issues in his native land by becoming a Senator and he also played professional basketball in his native land and will run for president in 2022.

“This is the hardest decision I’ve ever made, but I’m at peace with it. Chase your dreams, work hard, and watch what happens. Goodbye boxing.”
