Detroit Mi (September 9th, 2021)– Carlos Ilinas and CLIP Promotions will present Night of Knockouts XVIII, an exciting ten-bout card of professional boxing on Friday, September 10, 2021, at Soundboard Night Club, Motor City Casino, in Detroit, Michigan. Undefeated local light heavyweight prospect Taylor Duerr will be featured in the six-round main event at cruiserweight. It will be Duerr’s first bout since defeating Neller Obregon by eight-round decision at Motor City Casino in November 2019, shortly before the coronavirus Pandemic began.

Detroit southpaw and local favorite super middleweight Daryl Cunningham, 43-9 with 19 knockouts, a winner of ten straight, did not have his opponent approved, and so will be co-featured on the next CLIP Promotions card, according to CLIP promoter Carlos Ilinas.

Duerr, 10-0-2 with seven knockouts, Detroit, Michigan, has fought between 173 and 196 pounds. Duerr will be fighting above 175 pounds for the ninth time against dangerous Mexican trial horse Josue “Chiquilin” Obando, 20-30-2 with 15 knockouts, Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. Obando stopped 37-8 Marcos Reyes in the sixth round in November 2020, so Obando’s record is deceiving. Obando’s last six opponents including Duerr have a combined 115 wins. In 2019, Obando went 3-1-1, getting stopped in the fifth round by former middleweight contender Dominic Wade. However, in 2019, Obando stopped Jaudiel Zepeda, Israel Ornelas, undefeated Alfonzo Flores, and drew with 22-4-1 Joaquin Zamora.

Duerr’s bout with Obando will not be a walk in the park for either man. However, Duerr has more experience at the higher weight, Obando does not. Presuming the seven pound gap distance required in Michigan is met for the two cruiserweights, Duerr is favored by decision, or stoppage between rounds three and five. Duerr is suffering from ring rust, and caution and inactivity might take this bout the six round distance, though Duerr has power and talent to take out Obando on the ropes if he gets the cobwebs out. Duerr is still better off fighting at 175 pounds light heavyweight limit, Phil Awada and his corner be so advised.

Night of Knockouts XVIII Undercard Predictions

Ronaldo Vargas KO 3 Akeem Jackson, Welterweights

Wisconsin 5-1 prospect Vargas will expose padded record of Maryland’s 5-1 Jackson.

Derick Miller Jr. KO 3 Marcus Maulding, Cruiserweights

4-0 cruiserweight prospect Miller hails from Monroe, Michigan. His limited opponent, 1-3 southpaw Maulding, of Owosso, Michigan, does not have a chance in hell of the final bell.

Pro debut for super featherweight Rizzo, who hails from Plymouth, Michigan.

Matthew Niziolek (Pro Debut) TKO 2 Anthony Young, Welterweights

Nicole Reinhart Win Split Decision 4 Angelina Hoffschneider, Female Super Lightweights

Two minute rounds. Michigan’s 1-2 Reinhart favored over Colorado’s 0-3 Hoffschneider.

Tyler Perrault KO 2 Arnulfo Solis III, Heavyweights

0-2 Perrault by KO over 0-1 southpaw Solis. Both fighters, winless, have been kayoed three times combined. Do not expect a decision, expect a brief spectacular slugfest while it lasts.

Matthews Rodriguez Win 4 Fernando Hernandez, Middleweights

2-0 southpaw middleweight prospect Rodriguez from Saginaw, Michigan. 1-3 Hernandez not to be confused with Chicago middleweight contender “Fearless” Fernando Hernandez.
