No Exhibition BS! Freddie Roach Says A Real Fight ! Pacquiao vs. Floyd II or Josh Taylor on Table

By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent

Las Vegas, NV (August 18th, 2021)– “We would like to fight Mayweather one more time, that’s what were after. But exhibitions? No. Manny has many boxing (who will pay to watch him fight Floyd for real again one more time) fans,” Freddie Roach told Sky Sports.

PacMan lives, and after defeating Yordenis Ugas, the next titular bout should be Floyd. The world, as well as top boxing trainer Freddie Roach, is not interested is seeing Floyd Mayweather Jr. in an exhibition again. To that end, Roach has the ultimate solution for later in 2021 or 2022. Floyd should fight Manny Pacquiao again. With Errol Spence Jr. out with a retinal tear, Floyd Jr. is a better option for pay-per-view and packs a more powerful marquee punch.

Pacquiao, 62-7-2 with 39 knockouts, General Santos City, Philippines, will go for his fortieth knockout on Saturday, August 21, 2021, when he defends his World Boxing Association Super World Welterweight title at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, against 2008 Beijing Lightweight Olympic Bronze medalist Yordenis Ugas, Miami, Florida by way of Santiago de Cuba, Cuba.

Mayweather, 50-0 with 27 knockouts, as Las Vegas, Nevada, last boxed an eight round exhibition no decision with social media star Logan Paul on Sunday June 6, 2021. Paul weighed in at 189 pounds cruiserweight while Mayweather weighed 155 pounds middleweight (34 pounds less) at Hard Rock Stadium, Miami Gardens, Florida.

Floyd would need at least a few legitimate tune up fights of any level to get back to a peak weight of 147 pounds welterweight, or it will be a no go. If not, talented southpaw 140pound unified world chapion Josh Taylor, 18-0 with 13 knockouts, “The Tartan Tornado”, Haddington, United Kingdom, who currently holds the unified World Boxing Council, World Boxing Association World Super, World Boxing Organisation, and International Boxing Federation unified World Welterweight championships, could step to the plate and move up in weight class to fight Pacquiao in a pay-per-view blockbuster extravaganza.

As for fighting Josh Taylor as the alternative, Roach noted “We are just going one fight at a time. That fight can happen for sure. The thing about Manny, he is going to challenge (only fight) the best. He is not just going to pick some guy with a high rating because the world loves him (he only wants to fight the best fighters in the world at this stage of his career).”

LAS VEGAS (August 17, 2021) – Eight-division world champion and Philippine Senator Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao and WBA Welterweight World Champion Yordenis Ugás made their grand arrivals in Las Vegas Tuesday ahead of their FOX Sports PBC Pay-Per-View showdown this Saturday, August 21 from T-Mobile Arena.
Tickets for the live event, which is promoted by TGB Promotions and MP Promotions, are on sale now and can be purchased through t-mobilearena.com and axs.com.
Pacquiao seeks to add another piece of history to his already legendary resume Saturday night, while Ugas will look for a career-defining victory in his first world title defense. Ugas will be defending the same title that Pacquiao won when he defeated Keith Thurman in his last fight in July 2019.
Here is what Pacquiao and Ugas had to say Tuesday from Toshiba Plaza:
MANNY PACQUIAO
“I am excited to win another world championship on Saturday. I don’t care who has the belt right now, we’ll see who walks out of the ring with it.
“Being out of the ring has given me time to rest, but also to get motivated like in my early days. I can’t wait to display it all on fight night.
“Boxing is my passion. That’s why I’m still here giving inspiration to the boxing fans and bringing honor to my country. I’m happy doing my job and working hard. They have to try to slow me down in training, because I always want to go more rounds.
“This could be my last fight, or there could be more. I’m turning 43 in December, and my plan has always been to just go one fight at a time. I encourage the fans all over the world to watch this fight, because you never know.”
YORDENIS UGAS
“I’m here to wreck any future plans Manny Pacquiao has in the ring and make sure that Saturday is his last fight.
“It feels great to be in the main event Saturday night against a true legend like Pacquiao. I can’t wait to get in the ring on Saturday night.
“I didn’t hesitate at all when I got offered this fight. I knew right away what a big opportunity it would be and what a win like this can do for my career.
“I always work hard and give it my all every day in training camp. We were already working for the Fabian Maidana fight. Of course, once I knew I was fighting Pacquiao, I was motivated even more, but I always give it my all in training camp.”
