POIRIER VS. MCGREGOR 3 PREVIEW, HOW TO WATCH, BETTING ODDS, COUNTDOWN SHOW & PRESS CONFERENCE
Las Vegas, NV (July 8th, 2021)– UFC returns to Las Vegas with one of the biggest PPV cards in history as Conor McGregor tries to avenge his 2020 loss to the #1 ranked Lightweight, Dustin Poirier. Dustin Poirier pulled off the massive upset over Conor McGregor in their last fight with a second round TKO victory. The win for Poirier was revenge from his loss to McGregor at UFC 178 back in 2014. McGregor stopped Dustin in a little over a minute in the first fight with his patented powerful left hand.
The highly anticipated third fight between these two fighters at UFC 264 should be one for the ages. McGregor is 1-2 in his last three Octagon appearances, with his only win coming against UFC veteran Donald Cerrone in January of 2020. This is a must win fight for Conor McGregor. Dana White stated the winner of this trilogy will be fighting Charles Oliveira for the UFC Lightweight strap next.
The former UFC featherweight and lightweight champion will look to avoid the first losing streak in his professional MMA career. McGregor has never lost 2 fights in his career.
McGregor and Poirier had a heated build-up to their fight at UFC 178 in 2014. However, their rematch saw a much more friendlier McGregor, who portrayed himself in interviews as more mature and less abrasive than fans and media had come to know.
Now things have changed. Conor McGregor had promised to donate 500k to Dustin Poirier’s charity, The Good Fight Foundation and after the fight, Dustin pressed for the money on social media. This post infuriated McGregor and Conor decided to donate the money to another charity in Dustin’s hometown. Conor told Ariel Helwani in an interview on Wednesday with BT Sport, that he felt Dustin had disrespected his character and said he will make Poirier pay for the disrespect in the Octagon. UFC 264 anticipated press conference will begin at 8PM et Thursday in the link below.
Poirier vs. McGregor Odds
Poirier (27-6) is on the best run of his professional career with a 7-1 record since 2017. Five of those wins came against men who have held UFC gold. The lone loss in that stretch came against Khabib Nurmagomedov, the most dominant champion in lightweight history. Poirier is an exciting fighter with 20 stoppage wins in his 27 career victories.
McGregor (22-5) entered the UFC with nine straight wins in the Octagon, culminating in a 13-second knockout of Jose Aldo to win the featherweight championship. Since that win, McGregor’s dominance has faded since he won the lightweight title from Eddie Alvarez. The former two-division champ has gone just 3-3 since 2016. McGregor had multiple short-lived retirements and a professional boxing loss to Floyd Mayweather in a mega-fight in 2017. McGregor still remains a highly dangerous fighter who has stopped 20 of his opponents with only 2 decision wins in his career. Expect a stoppage either way on Saturday night.
