San Juan, Puerto Rico (March 27th, 2021)– Amanda Serrano is all class. Serrano, 40-1 with 30 knockouts, Brooklyn, New York, has won female titles as Super flyweight, Super bantamweight, featherweight, super featherweight, and lightweight. On Thursday, March 25, 2021, Serrano knocked out Daniella Roman Bermudez, 29-4-3 with 10 knockouts, Rosario, Santa Fe, Argentina, in the ninth round, to retain her World Boxing Council and World Boxing Organisation World Featherweight titles, adding the International Boxing Organization World Featherweight title to her collection as well.
Taylor, 17-0 with six knockouts, Bray, Ireland, holds the World Boxing Council, World Boxing Association, World Boxing Organisation, and International Boxing Federation World Lightweight titles. She will defend these titles on May 1, 2021, against Natasha Jonas, 9-1-1 with seven knockouts, Liverpool, United Kingdom, on the same United Kingdom Sky card as Dereck Chisora versus Joseph Parker, ad WBA World Light Heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol versus BBB of C British Light Heavyweight champion turned challenger Craig Richards.
If Taylor gets by Jonas, a Serrano versus Taylor super fight could be the biggest promotion in female boxing besides 11-0 WBA WBC WBO and IBF World Female Light Middleweight champion Clarissa Shields of Flint, Michigan, who is the undisputed female world champion at 154 pounds. Serrano has never gone above 140 pounds, and Serrano and Taylor are both talented female lightweights. Shields, Taylor, and Serrano are all relevant in that they are the big marquee draws in female boxing. Money has to be put on the pay-per-view or television table for these three warriors. How much Serrano versus Taylor could get would depend who promotes it, and where. Since both female combatants are active in 2021 and world champions, a future clash seem destiny. Serrano, who is 32 years old, last held a share of the lightweight title in August 2014, when she won the WBO version of the female Word Lightweight title by knocking out Maria Elena Maderna in the sixth round. Amanda Serrano versus Taylor has some heated sibling rivalry revenge interest since Taylor defeated Amanda’s sister, Cyndi (Checkmate) Serrano to defend her WBA and IBF world lightweight titles by 10 round decision at TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts, in October 2018. Cyndi had a 14 bout unbeaten string going into that bout, and Amanda now has a 26 bout winning streak to challenge Taylor’s 18 bout win streak if she beats Jonas.
