
Happy Boxing New Year! Ioka Stops Tanaka, Higa Knocks Out Kobayashi

Tokyo, Japan (January 1st, 2021)– Good cheer! Happy Boxing New Year! A six bouts card was held on New Year’s Eve at Ota City General Gymnasium, Tokyo, Japan on Thursday, January 31, 2020. In the main event, four-division world champion Katzuto Ioka retained the World Boxing Organisation World Super Flyweight championship with an eighth-round stoppage of 15-0 World Boxing Organisation World Flyweight champion Kosei Tanaka, who was attempting to move up in weight class.
Ioka, a power hitter with a tight defense, knocked out Tanaka on his feet into the referee’s arms with a sudden power overhand right, which put an immediate end to the bout. In his tenth world title bout, Ioka, 26-2 with 15 knockouts, age 31, Tokyo, Japan, dealt Tanaka, 15-1 with nine knockouts, Nagoya, Japan, his first loss as a professional. Ioka Tanaka did not win any rounds on the scorecards.
Result: Katzuto Tanaka TKO 8 Kosei Tanaka, Super Flyweights (1:35)
