TYSON VS. JONES WEIGH-IN, PRESSER, FINAL INTERVIEWS, PREDICTIONS, PREVIEW & HOW TO WATCH
By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent
LOS ANGELES, CA ( Nov. 28, 2020)-On Saturday. November 28, 2020, Thanksgiving weekend, former undisputed world heavyweight champion Iron Mike Tyson, and four-division world champion Roy Jones Jr., will get it on in a highly publicized exhibition at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. The exhibition bout is sanctioned by the California State Athletic Commission.
A five bouts undercard will be featured before the pay-per-view main event. If Tyson performs impressively enough, he could be aiming for a high stakes rematch in 2021 with former world heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield, which would be their third meeting. If Tyson knockouts out Jones in this exhibition match, his chances at getting Holyfield again would be enhanced if he really wants to do a second dinosaur pay-per-view.
Tyson, age 54, 50-6 with 44 knockouts, Henderson, Nevada, has been out of the ring since 2005. Jones, age 51, 66-9 with 47 knockouts, Pensacola, Florida, won his last professional bout over Scott Sigmon at Civic Center in Pensacola in February 2018 by 10 round decision. The bout is probably very drawish, as Jones is more active, and Tyson is still a famous big name but is long ring rusty. Well, Canadian heavyweight Donavan Razor Ruddock attempted a comeback a few years back at middle age, so Mike and Roy can enjoy, in the least, a good payday and a good trip down memory lane. Neither of the two combatants are in the hunt for a shot at Tyson Fury or Deontay Wilder.
Given the insane nature of the time period everybody is now living in, talking about Mike Tyson fighting Roy Jones Jr. sure beats thinking about the coronavirus. Given, good old Iron Mike is not Rocky Balboa, but presuming both fighters did some serious training, the boxing fans might be in for some retro entertainment from these two gallant old warriors.
On the undercard, social media icon Jake Paul faces debuting NBA basketball star Nathaniel Robinson at cruiserweight in a six-rounder. In eight rounders: 8-0 featherweight Edward Vazquez faces Irvin Gonzalez for the vacant World Boxing Council USNBC Featherweight title; cruiserweight Badou Jack, a former world light heavyweight champion, faces 13-0 prospect Blake McKernan; heavyweight Joe Cusomano faces Gregory Corbin for the vacant World Boxing Council USNBC heavyweight title, and 13-0 Jamaine Ortiz faces Sulaiman Segawa for the vacant World Boxing Council USNBC Silver Lightweight title.
