Betting Lines For Bronze Bomber Narrow in Third Tyson Fury Match

By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent

Deontay ‘The Bronze Bomber’ Wilder has significantly narrowed the early bookies betting line, in assessing his potential to win a July 2020 third match with Tyson Fury for the lineal World Heavyweight title, and the World Boxing Council World Heavyweight title. To accomplish the impossible and make it possible, Wilder, 42-1-1 with 41 knockouts, Tuscaloosa, Alabama, will still probably have to do what he does best-knock Tyson Fury out. Wilder almost had Tyson Fury out in their first match in the twelfth round when he decked Fury, and had an early knockdown besides. How Fury got up is anybody’s guess.

Betonline.ag listed Tyson Fury last week as a negative 220 dollars favorite (bet $220 to win $100) and Deontay Wilder as a $180 underdog (bet $100 to win $180). This week, Fury’s odds have increased to being a negative 260 dollars favorite (bet $260 to win $100) while having Deontay Wilder as a $20 dollars underdog (bet $100 to win $220).

However, according to Oddschecker, Tyson Fury is listed at negative 200 dollars (bet $200 to win $100), while Deontay Wilder is listed as a 275 dollars underdog (bet $100, win $275). A Fury-versus Wilder 12 round draw result (which happened in their first match) is listed at 2500 dollars (bet $100, win $2500). Wilder is attracted more attention from ‘high rollers’ with money to gamble. 58 percent of gamblers are betting their money on Deontay Wilder to win, 39 percent are betting on Tyson Fury to win, and three percent are betting the 12 rounds draw will happen again. The betting lines have not revealed knockout or decision gambler’s preference within the bet, which is an additional betting factor with the wagers.

Wilder will have to cut Fury and get to him early in the fight, and as such will have to let his hands go in their third confrontation In July 2020. Fury, 30-0-1 with 21 knockouts, will try to work Wilder over early, keep him off balance and break his indomitable spirit. Wilder will be fighting for his life in the third matchup. Look for a Wilder who will bring something to the table different from their first two matches. The Joker’s definitely going to bewilder in Wilder’s third match with Fury, because Wilder will either knock him out, or go 12 rounds trying to do it if his game plan works. Wilder will have to create more punch angles to confuse Fury, who had better movement in their second bout. Wilder will be headhunting for the one-punch knockout opening. Good luck trying to find it again against a colossus figure like Fury, who comes forward and refuses to be intimidated.

Only seven of Wilder’s knockouts have come in the seventh round or later. To win, Wilder’s best chance is to bloody, cut up and stop fury within eight rounds. The only certainty is Wilder versus Fury III is bound is bound to be different than the first two matches, because both fighters have unique approaches and will bring something different to the ring. Wilder will need a better training camp than he has had in the past, to do the kind of sparring work which creates better angles and more opportunities to score jab and power punches. Wilder also has to slip punches better, as Fury really worked him over in their second meeting. Whatever happens, Wilder versus Fury three is the super fight of the year 2020 on the horizon.
