Rocky Marciano Documentary

Actor Kirk Douglas Was A Big Fan of Rocky Marciano

By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent

In 1970, the late Hollywood actor Kirk Douglas hosted a television documentary tribute to his friend, the late world heavyweight champion Rocky Marciano. Kirk Douglas met Rocky Marciano when he was in a Los Angeles gym training for the movie ‘Champion’ in 1950, while Rocky was in the same gym training to become the world heavyweight champion.

“I was proud to be Rocky Marciano’s friend, and in many ways, what a career. Rocky Marciano, the greatest champion in the history of boxing, a legend in his own time. He was the only undefeated champion, and his record was unsurpassed. 49 victories in 49 fights, 43 by knockout,’ noted Douglas about the most determined fighter who ever lived.

Kirk Douglas, whose last public appearance was with his son Michael Douglas in November 2018 as Michael got his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, died on February 5, 2020, at age 103. Douglas, who was nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award in 1950 for Champion, 953 for The Bad and the Beautiful, and Lust for Life in 1957, was given an honorary Academy Award in 1996
