Can Tyson Fury Make Boxing to WWE Wrestling Transition vs. Strowman? Tale of Tape

By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent

Tyson Fury is sort of like Conor McGregor in reverse. Muhammad Ali fought wrestler Rocky Aoki. Floyd Mayweather Jr. fought the MMA guy. Former heavyweight champions such as Riddick Bowe and Ray Mercer have made fools of themselves crossing over the great divide from professional boxing into MMA. Tyson Fury of Great Britain, the lineal world heavyweight champion, finds his motivation and challenge are in the crossover from professional boxing to professional wrestling as he has now joined World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). The concept of a word heavyweight boxing champion becoming a pro wrestler is not unique. It is just not common. The late former world heavyweight champion Joe Louis crossed over to pro wrestling for financial reasons after Rocky Marciano knocked him out. It worked until Louis sadly got badly hurt. Tyson Fury going WWE has a taste of insanity. What more crazy stuff can happen in the world of boxing?

Tyson Fury is a colossus, a gargantuan human being for a super athlete, and he believes he can do anything. Floyd fought in Wrestlemania XXIV back I 2008 against Big Show. Now Tyson Fury and Floyd are partying in Las Vegas. The general public should get the bigger picture. Tyson Fury versus the big bad boy wrestlers of today is a big money cash draw which would be picture perfect for Floyd to promote. Fury’s eye stitches have not yet healed from his bloody bout with Otto Wallin, and now Fury wants to go the WWE route.

Fury, the ‘Gypsy King’, 31, will wrestle Braun Strowman at the Crown Jewel on pay-per-view in Saudi Arabia on October 31, 2019, less than ten days away. Fury is 6’9″ to Strowman’s 6’8″. Fury weighs 257 pounds to Strowman’s 385 pounds. It is a senseless matchup by the numbers, but it might not be senseless if Fury can use boxing skill to knock Strowman out. If Strowman can get Fury down onto the canvas, it will be torture party time for Strowman, not Fury. Add the additional dilemma Fury’s bloody battle with Otto Wallin was on September 14, 2019. The has been scarcely a month a half for Fury’s right eye which took 40 stitches against Wallin to heal. His right eye cut could break open again.

Tyson Fury will win by knockout if he hits Strowman first. Braun Strowman will win by choke out or a punch out if he gets Fury down on the floor and sits on him. Tyson Fury cannot overcome 128 pounds weight discrepancy. Some may argue Fury will move better inside the MMA ring with less weight. Strowman’s excess weight could cause him to tire in a long drawn out war with Fury. The almighty dollar has drawn Tyson Fury to Saudi Arabia, with Andy Ruiz and Anthony Joshua not far behind in coming to Saudi Arabia for their rematch. The spoils of oil will put Saudi Arabia in October 2019 on the map in the same way Muhammad Ali versus George Foreman put Kinshasa, Zaire on the map in 1974.
