By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent
Detroit, Michigan (July 27th, 2019)– In a shocking major upset on the Carlos Llinas Sound Board MotorCity Casino Detroit, Michigan 13 bout professional and amateur MMA card on Friday night, July 26, 2019, 1-5 Detroit journeyman Usama Rahman, fighting at 135 pounds Bantamweight, accomplished an unexpected rear-naked chokehold to defeat the heavily favored 3-3 Justin Street on Westland, Michigan, and throw the Michigan professional MMA ratings into chaos.
In an exclusive interview with Real Combat Media after the card ended, Rahman explained he had prepared for the bout by training exclusively by wrestling MMA with heavyweights. The idea worked. Rahman controlled the ring from the start, surprisingly Street, who continued to get taken down time after time, struggling on the mat. A rear-naked chokehold ended Street’s wind, who was beaten and had no choice to give up. Promoter Carlos Llinas noted the Rahman-Street bout was one of a number of upsets on the evening’s 13 bout professional and amateur card, providing the fairness of the matchups and the ‘you never know’ result.
Result: Usama Rahman TKO 1 Justin Street, Bantamweights (4:49)
A moment of silence was observed for the late professional boxers Maxim Dadashev of Russia and Hugo Santillan of Argentina, who died during the week of injuries received from bouts they participated in last weekend.
