By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent
Kissimmee, Florida (May 24th, 2019)– Masayuki Ito will defend his World Boxing Organization World Super Featherweight title against challenger Jamel Herring on Friday, May 25, 2019, in the 12 round scheduled main event at Osceola Heritage Park, in Kissimmee, Florida. USA ESPN, Bob Arum’s Top Rank, Teiken Promotions and All Star Boxing will present this televised two bout WBO title card.
Ito, 25-1-1 with 13 knockouts, Tokyo, Japan, is favored to win by eleventh round stoppage over southpaw challenger Jamal Herring, 19-2 with 10 knockouts, Cincinnati, Ohio.
Ito has never been seen outside of Japan. This will be Ito’s second defense of his WBO world title. His last two opponents had a combined record of 43-0, superior experience which makes Ito the favorite to stop Herring.
Jose Pedraza, 25-2 with 12 knockouts, Cidra, Puerto Rico, the former International Boxing Federation World Super Featherweight champion, and the former World Boxing Organization World Lightweight and WBO Latino Lightweight champion, is favored to win his vacant WBO Latino Lightweight back by 10 round unanimous decision over Ines Antonio Lozada Torres, 40-2-1 with 34 knockouts, Tijuana, Mexico.
Pedraza has been in there with Vasiliy Lomachenko and Gervonta Davis, and thus has the benefit of 19 rounds of superior experience against two f the world’s most talent fighters. Torres did beat 23-0 Felix Verdejo at Madison Square Garden a year ago, but is coming off an eight round split draw against unheralded 12-7-1 Hector Torres last August in Glendale, California, and has never won outside of Mexico.
