German Heavyweight Showdown

Kabayel vs. Schwarz: Ultimate 2019 German Heavyweight Showdown

By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent

Two of Germany’s top heavyweight prospects have risen to the worldwide top 15, but both remain untested at the elite level. Perhaps the ultimate super fight challenge will be to fight each other for a version of the European heavyweight title. A legitimate challenger to Anthony Joshua or Deontay Wilder for one of the world heavyweight titles could emerge.

Agit Kabayel, 19-0 with 13 knockouts, Bochum, Germany, has won four consecutive EBU European heavyweight title bouts, the most recent being a 12 round decision over Andriy Rudenko in defense of his title on March 3, 2019, in Magdeburg, Germany.

Tom Schwarz, 24-0 with 16 knockouts, Magdeburg, Germany, has won five consecutive World Boxing Organization Inter-Continental Heavyweight title bouts, the most recent being a second round knockout of Kristijan Krstacic on March 3, 2019, in Magdeburg, Germany.

Kabatel, age 26, 6’3” and 246 pounds, and Schwarz, age 24, 6’ 5 1/2” and 240 pounds, are both therefore regional titleholders and an even matchup. Both titles could be at stake. If not, both men could be headed on different roads to different shares of the world heavyweight title at the same time, much like the Klitschko brothers. In any case, 2019 should tell their future direction, as to whether their paths could collide-or not.
