New York, NY (January 24th, 2018)– Mexican super lightweight Pablo Cesar ‘El Demoledor’ Cano scored the Real Combat Media upset of the month of January 2019 when knocked down durable Jorge Linares of Venezuela three times in the first round and stopped him on the ropes at Madison Square Garden on January 18, 2019.

Cano, 32-7-1 with 22 knockouts, Atizapan de Zaragoza, Mexico, has won only six of his last 13 bouts in the past seven years against main event opposition, and yet, holds the World Boxing Council International Silver Lightweight title and a top ten super lightweight ranking by virtue of his significant win over Linares.

Linares, 45-5 with 28 knockouts, a Venezuelan fighting out of Tokyo, Japan, has apparently not recovered from his tenth round stoppage loss to Vasily Lomachenko in a WBA World Lightweight title bout last May. Linares did knock out 23-3 limited Abner Cotto last September. Cano proved too strong and a class above Linares. During his career, Linares has been plagued with a warrior’s weak chin, having been knocked down eight times in his career before this bout, and previously went down twice in the first round of a WBA World Super Featherweight bout against Juan Carlos Salgado, who stopped him.
