Bosnian Surprise! Armin Mrkanovic Will Be the Backup Main Event on Delaware Card
By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent
Hockessin, Delaware (November 8th, 2018)– Bosnian surprise! Armin Mrkanovic, AKA ‘The Bosnian Prince’ is uniquely in the gym, waiting in the wings as the backup to the main event of an eleven bout fight card promoted by Diane Lee Fischer’s Dee Lee Promotions at the Police Athletic League Center in Hockessin, Delaware, Saturday, December 1, 2018. “I’ll take either one!” says Mrkanovic.
The eight round cruiserweight event features 16-8 Anthony Caputo Smith of Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, versus former World Light Heavyweight champion Prince Badi Ajamu, 29-5-1, Camden, New Jersey. However, Mrkanovic, 8-3, Queens, New York, looking in beastly condition, has called out Ajamu previously on Real Combat Media, is waiting in the wings and has agreed to step in if either man pulls out for any reason.
In two preliminary bouts to the main event, light heavyweight southpaw Derrick ‘Take It To The Bank’ Webster, 28-1, Glassboro, New Jersey, will fight an opponent to be named. 16-3 super lightweight Joey Tiberi, of Bear, Delaware, will face an opponent to be named.
Super lightweight 50-7 Dorin Spivey, a former Dee Lee Promotions fighter and a former WBA-NABA titleholder, is scheduled to go for his ninth win in a row at the Masonic Temple in Norfolk, Virginia on December 8, 2018, but also has no opponent listed yet, and remains interested in Tiberi. Rumors of a Tiberi versus Spivey WBA-NABA USA vacant super lightweight title bout continue to swirl for years. Tiberi lost a decision to the only opponent with a winning record he has ever faced, Tyrell Samuel, at Dover Downs Hotel and Casino in 2014. Spivey, who is 46 years old, has not faced an opponent with a winning record in over five years. Spivey would seem to be the perfect opponent for Tiberi, who is coming off a third-round stoppage of Francisco Medel at PAL Center this past September.
“It has always been open to discussion, but we have never been able to put the fight together. It is up to matchmaker Nick Tiberi (to make the bout happen),” explained promoter Diane Lee Fischer.
Eight four rounders will round out the card. 1-0 heavyweight Stefan Talbisco will fight debuting Dell Sefton. 2-0 female super middleweight Schmelle Baldwin will fight an opponent to be named. 1-0 super welterweight Vinnie Kirkley will face 0-1 Xavier Graham. 3-0 super middleweight Maurice Horne will appear against an opponent to be named. 2-0 super middleweight Brandon Mullins will face 4-14 John Colvin. Debuting lightweight Adonis Wilkins will face 0-3 Nyrome Lynch. 7-2 light heavyweight David Murray will face an opponent to be named. 3-2 middleweight Anthony Miller will face 2-7 Jauvan John.
