LAS VEGAS (August 4, 2018) – Lightweight contender Ladarius Miller (17-1, 5 KOs) won a competitive unanimous decision over Dennis Galarza (16-4, 9 KOs) in the main event of Premier Boxing Champions on Bounce Friday night from Sam’s Town in Las Vegas.

The 25-year-olds spent the first few rounds feeling each other out before the action heated up as Miller began to find some space inside with his speed. Miller’s southpaw attack saw him look to jab inside before darting to the right to deliver left hands.

“I fought a tough opponent but I felt like I went in there and did what I was supposed to do,” said Miller. “I thought I controlled the fight the way I wanted to, but it wasn’t my best performance. I know that I can come back even better.

“Galarza’s height was definitely difficult to deal with and I had to really work to get on the inside. He tried to use his range and I had to make adjustments. I tried to keep him off balance and fight my fight.”

Galarza’s work rate began to increase with Miller’s upped aggressiveness as he found success with his jab and countering some of the movement Miller flashed. In a fight that appeared close throughout, Miller’s speed and effective straight left hands, combined with counter right hooks, gave him the decision in the eyes of the judges by scores of 96-94, 97-93 and 99-91.

“I’m ready to keep testing myself and move forward,” said Miller. “I’m ready for any opportunity that comes my way against the best of the division.”

Additional televised action saw former title challenger Sharif Bogere (32-1, 20 KOs) win a hard fought unanimous decision over Chile’s Oscar Bravo (23-8, 11 KOs) in their 10-round super lightweight showdown.

Bogere showed off an impressive arsenal, stinging Bravo early with a check left hook and combination punching that left his opponent bleeding from his left eye from the early rounds. Bravo pushed forward and tried to trap Bogere against the ropes while throwing power punches, despite the impairment.

Even with the 10-round onslaught from Bravo, Bogere was able to consistently counter and hurt Bravo, never allowing the Chilean fighter to put him in any real danger. The judges all saw the fight for Bogere with scores of 99-91 and 100-90 twice.

In the opening bout of the telecast, unbeaten Juan Heraldez (14-0, 8 KOs) rode a first round knockdown and impressive combination punching on his way to a unanimous decision victory over Kevin Watts (11-3, 4 KOs) in their 10-round super lightweight matchup.

Heraldez delivered a thundering counter left uppercut that sent Watts to the canvas in the opening frame of the fight. Watts was able to survive the round but it set the tone for what was to come, as Heraldez was consistently landed the cleaner and more powerful punches.

Watts attempted to get back in the fight leading with a power left hook but Heraldez was able to keep him at bay and deliver his own offense to earn the victory by scores of 100-89 and 98-91 twice.

PBC on BounceTV results from Sam’s Town Hotel and Gambling Hall in Las Vegas including the undercard

The first fight of the night was Efren Lopez vs. Daniel Constantino. It was a four round Featherweight brawl from beginning to end. It went the distance with Lopez winning against Constantino by unanimous decision 39-36.

Andres Cortes vs. Jarret Jeter followed and although it was an uneventful six rounds in the Super Featherweight division, the last few seconds of the 4th, 5th and 6th rounds showed last minute efforts from both fighters. The judges unanimously scored 60-54 in favor of Cortes who did dominate the fight and commanded better ring generalship than his opponent.

Next on the card was the eight round Super Bantamweight display of Angelo Leo vs. Sharone Carter. It wasn’t pleasant to watch as it lacked technical skills mainly on behalf of Sharone Carter who kept his hands down and charged at and held Angelo Leo most of the fight. Leo effectively worked Carter’s body with power shots to the body during this fight. The judges come back with a decision of 80-72 and 2x 79-73 in favor of Leo. They kept Kenny Bayless VERY busy …

The most enjoyable fight of the evening was Sanjarbek Rakhmanov vs. Marques Taylor. Taylor unanimously won the NABF Welterweight Championship after eight rounds of skilled, precision body work and flurries of upper cuts to the body of Rakhmanov who in the early rounds appeared to try to emulate Mikey Garcia and throw the taller, lankier man off his game. Taylor worked the inside well and effectively jabbed his way through the middle rounds while keeping his distance and not letting Rakhmanov get to his body.

Juan Heraldez vs. Kevin Watts proved to have a turnaround mid fight for Watts who was dominated through round 3. He went down in the first round after receiving an upper cut by heavy handed Heraldez. I don’t see this one going the distance as Watts had a hard time getting through the first several rounds. Watts appeared to get his second wind in the fourth as Heraldez tired and went the fight went the distance. The judges gave the decision to Heraldez 100 to 89 and 2x 98 to 91.

There was great hustling between Sharif Bogere and Oscar Bravo towards the end of the ten rounds of this Junior Welterweight fight. It appeared the Bravo was taking a great beating to the head early on however the ref let the fight continue even though Bravo’s eye was bleeding early on. Bravo fought back and challenged Bogere the rest of the fight and the judges came back with 100 to 90 and 2x 99 to 91.

The headliner of the evening was the much-anticipated battle between Ladarius Miller and Dennis Galarza. The Lightweights went ten rounds and there was little to no action in the first several rounds. Galarza did move quite gracefully with ease and confidence landing a few blows during that time and Miller was unable to connect with his body due to Galarza’s defensive style and swift movements. They were feeling each other out and measuring each other otherwise. Things turned around mid-fight with a few surprising left hooks to the body by Miller that Galarza seemed unprepared for. They judges came back in favor of Miller at 97 to 93, 99 to 91 and 96 to 94 against Galarza which was a bit vast and this was closer to a draw if anything.

Rolando Romero came out blazing and overpowered Javier Martinez with power and skill throughout the entire six rounds of this Lightweight fight. Fight fans shouted Rolly, Rolly throughout the televised match and he received a unanimous decision although the scores were 2x 60 to 53 and 60 to 54.

Omar Douglas pulled off a much-deserved unanimous win in this toe to toe battle against Lydell Rhodes. There was nonstop action during the entire eight rounds of the Super Featherweight battle.

The much-anticipated fight between Kevin Newman and Cesar Ruiz did not happen.
