Beware The Ongoing Fury of Tyson Fury

Editorial By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent

He’s big. He’s bad. He’s intimidating. He’s back again. Former undefeated world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury wants a piece of the action, and only Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua stand in his way, for all intensive purposes. Wilder will be next.

Fury has now won two comeback bouts in the past 69 days, to bring his record as a heavyweight to 27-0 with 19 knockouts. On Saturday, August 18, 2018, at Windsor Park in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Fury won every round of a 10 rounder over Francesco Pianeta.

After the bout’s conclusion, Fury and Wilder faced off. According to promoter Frank Warren, Wilder will be next for Fury, who will challenge for Wilder’s WBC World Heavyweight title. This would be a rarity, with two undefeated world heavyweight champions squaring off for the first time since Joe Frazier versus Muhammad Ali.

If the big money is on the table, the bout is promotable for pay-per-view, and very winnable by either contestant. How much money will make Wilder versus Fury right, that is the question. This reporter’s guess is at least several million dollars apiece plus a percentage of the pay-per-view. A great card could be built around the mega-bout, and boxing needs a great publicity bout to improve its visibility. This could be the bout and card of the year later in late 2018 or early 2019, surpassing even GGG versus Canelo Alvarez. The British are still hungry for Fury versus Joshua, or Wilder versus Joshua, so Fury versus Joshua jumps starts the triangle, and brings the possibility of unifying the world heavyweight championship one step closer.
