Flyweight Uzzy Ahmed, Best Showboat Dancer with Worst Exit Ever in Boxing History

By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent

Many a boxer has walked the walk and talked the talk, as in trash talk. Hype and trash talk can often promote a fight better than advertising, and sell tickets and Pay-Per-View.

At 8-9-2, British flyweight Usman ‘Uzzy’ Ahmed is a boxing legend, and not for boxing ability either. Even Prince Haseem Hamed and Adrien Broner cannot match the dancing showboat hype which made Ahmed a YouTube sensation and legend.

Ahmed went as long as 12 rounds, no small accomplishment, in his brief 19 bout career, in a 12 round rematch loss to Chris Edwards for the Commonwealth British Empire and BBB of C Flyweight regional titles.

On January 22, 2010, Uzzy Ahmed made silly ring history at the Brentwood Centre in Brentwood, United Kingdom, in his flyweight bout against Ashley Sexton. His blatant showboat dance and large neck chain were the dandy strut of the century. Ahmed’s colorful funny dancing ring entrance lasted longer than the bout, in which his opponent, Ashley Sexton, knocked him out in the first round. The dance, and the bout result which followed, remain legendary because both appeared ridiculous. Ahmed’s career never recovered from the loss, yet his jazzy ring dance made his bout one of the most memorable in recent memory for his brief flash and crash, not for ring generalship excellence.

Surprise! Usman’s YouTube video, which apparently documents the loss, is a well edited fake. In fact, Usman’s video entrance was actually from a different bout, his May 2009 loss over 12 rounds to Chris Edwards. Some enterprising individual spliced Usman’s entrance to his 12 round fight in 2009, and put it together with his 2010 first round knockout loss to Ashley Sexton. His brief boxing career between 2006 to 2016 was completely uneventful, save for the edited boxing clip which made Usman one of the best known and most famous boxers of all-time, but for entertainment, not for prowess.
