Jennings Dawejko 1

Bombs Away! Dawejko versus Jennings Must End in a Knockout Saturday Night

By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent

Philadelphia, PA (April 28th, 2018)– In this second preview look here, Bryant ‘By-By’ Jennings takes on Joey Dawejko at Liacouras Center on Saturday evening, April 28, 2018, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Jennings, 22-2 with 13 knockouts, Philadelphia, takes on Joey Dawejko in a 10 rounder for the vacant Pennsylvania State Heavyweight title.

Jennings stands 6’3” with an 83 inch reach. Dawejko, 19-4-4 with 11 knockouts, Philadelphia, stands only 5’10” with a 70 inch reach. Despite Dawejko’s propensity for first-round knockouts, Juan Carlos Robles, Jarrell Miller, Ytalo Perea, and Rodney Hernandez have all drawn with him, and besides Miller the other three names do not impress. A key to decoding Dawejko is not to open up offensively, but to have a masterful tight defense and counter whenever he throws.

Jennings has height and reach advantage. Jennings will stop Dawejko behind his jab if he outmaneuvers Dawejko for all 10 rounds. However, Dawejko will drop Jennings if Jennings lets him inside, and will knock Jennings out if Jennings offers a flat footed target. Stick and move should be the Jennings adage. Dawejko is unlikely to get the cards against Jennings, but it could be a close bout similar to Joey’s bout with Amir Mansour, with both fighters cut from accidental butts.

If the bout seesaws as cautionary tale between Jennings and Dawejko and emerges similar to Dawejko versus Mansour, the cards could be closer. Dawejko’s biggest asset is his knockout power, but Jennings has height and reach advantage and knows how to use them. If Dawejko fails to take Jennings out, Jennings could stop Dawejko. Jennings is not known for carelessness, and Dawejko’s style has been decoded and figured out by a number of defensive-minded ordinary fighters. Dawejko has won three bouts at eight rounds but has never won at 10 rounds. Jennings has won four of five bouts which have gone 10 rounds or longer for him, an experience which gives him the key advantage. Dawejko will be looking to capitalize on any mistakes Jennings could make.

Jennings versus Dawejko could the fight of the year. The two fighters will both have a game plan, based on size, speed, power, and working the outside versus working the inside. Dawejko will be an underdog. Jennings seems more a candidate to move for a world title shot, but Dawejko has phenomenal power. Who wins, is anybody’s guess Saturday night.
