Brad Watson Scores British Upset of 2018, Wins BBB of C Super Flyweight Title in Tenth

By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent

Sheffield, UK (February 3, 2018)– Long forgotten Brad ‘Glamour Boy’ Watson, who had been out of the ring over a year, and had not won a bout since 2014, scored the British upset of 2018 thus far, when he stopped unbeaten contender Louis Nassa in the tenth and final round to win the BBB of C English Super Flyweight title at Ponds Ford Arena in Sheffield, Yorkshire, United Kingdom, on February 2, 2018. Watson defeated Nassa in Nassa’s hometown of Sheffield, not an easy feat to have to win a bout by stoppage or knockout in the tenth and final round knowing the hometown judges might just favor your opponent no matter what you do.

Watson, 11-2 with five knockouts, Guernsey, Channel Islands, United Kingdom, came into the bout weighing 114 pounds against the 10-0 Nassa, Watson’s lowest weight since he turned pro in 2011.  Since Sheffield’s Nassa turned pro in 2014, all but one of his nine opponents had a losing record, the only opponent with a winning record at the time was 2-0-1 Jordan Turner with Turner’s three bouts against winless opponents. Turner is now 3-6-1, leaving Nassa’s 10-0 record suspect. Watson won an eight round decision in 2014 over a fighter with a record of 15-13-1, and had knocked out an opponent with a 7-4 record. Watson’s opponents had a combined 73 wins, Nassa’s opponents had a combined 34 wins, giving Watson the edge in experience.

Watson knocked down Nassa in the sixth round, and twice in the tenth and final round to earn the late stoppage in the final two minutes of the bout. Watson versus Nassa was the preliminary bout to the main event of an eight bout card, which featured Josh Gale making his third successful defense of his BBB of C British Bantamweight title in the main event.

Result: Brad Watson TKO 10 Louis Nassa, British Bantamweights

Time: 1:11 of the Tenth Round. Referee: Shaun Messer

Nassa was knocked down in the sixth round, and twice in the tenth round.
