Miami, FL. (February 28th, 2018)– Philadelphia welterweight George ‘El Terrible’ Sosa was arrested in Miami, Florida, on Saturday, February 26, 2018, on charges, including second degree murder of his father and burglary, after breaking into an apartment and found in bed in a bedroom watching television by the woman who lived there, in the same apartment complex where his father died. She asked what he was doing in her bed, and Sosa replied “Watching television.”
A witness heard Sosa’s father crying out in Spanish “Ayudame! Ayudame!” which is Spanish for somebody help me. Officers responding to the burglary call found the victim’s body in an apartment in the 700 block of Southwest Third Street. The Miami Medical examiner said the victim, Mr. Sosa, suffered multiple injuries to his neck and throat area. Judge Mindy Glazer said in court Sosa had an altercation with his father.
Sosa, age 31, a welterweight with a 15-12-1 record with 15 knockouts, fighting out of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was stopped in the fifth round of a middleweight bout with Tony Harrison in El Paso, Texas, on February 17, 2018. Sosa was scheduled to fight Australian super-welterweight Tommy Browne at the Miami Airport Convention Center on March 24. Despite his winning record, which began in 2011 with six consecutive knockouts, Sosa had lost five bouts and drawn one bout in his last six ring appearances.
