REAL COMBAT MEDIA MMA AWARDS
Welcome to final portion our 2017 awards with the 6th annual Real Combat Media MMA Awards. MMA numbers were down from 2015-2016 in the sport because the top PPV stars Conor McGregor and Ronda Rousey did not compete this year in MMA. However, there were many positives about 2017 with the stars that won these prestigious awards. Check out all our winners below.
Male Fighter of the Year
Max Holloway (19-3) had an impressive 2017 campaign by finishing UFC legend Jose Aldo twice by a TKO stoppage. Finishing Aldo twice in one year is what gave Max the Real Combat Media 2017 MMA Fighter of the year award.Holloway has the UFC Featherweight record for the most consecutive victories with 12 wins in a row. The future potential for the Hawaiian native seems limitless since he just turned 27 and is just entering his prime. Holloway may move up to 155lbs and challenge for that title in the future.
Female Fighter Of the Year
Rose Namajunas, 26, pulled off the upset of the year and the Real Combat Media MMA female fighter of the year by stopping longtime 115lb Polish champion Joanna Jędrzejczyk by TKO at UFC 217 at Madison Square Garden in New York on November 4th. Earlier in the year in April on UFC FOX Rose defeated Michelle Waterson by rear naked choke submission after she landed a devastating head kick. In 2018, Rose will look to either face Jędrzejczyk in a rematch or face Jessica Andrade.
MMA KO OF THE YEAR
The UFC performance Institute in Las Vegas, Nevada recorded the world hardest punch by Frances Ngannou this year on their computerized punching machine. Frances proved he can carry his punching power into the Octagon by defeating Alistair Overeem with an impressive lead left-hand uppercut that put Alistair to sleep for a few minutes. Frances will now challenge for the title at UFC 220 against Stipe Miocic. Check out this impressive uppercut in the video link below.
