Middleweight David Lemieux Anesthetizes Curtis Stevens with Left Hook in Third Round

By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent

Verona, NY (March 12, 2017)– Canadian middleweight David Lemieux has 33 knockouts in his 40 bout career, an 83% knockout ratio. Curtis Stevens appeared to ignore that statistic, and proceeded to slug for the sky for three rounds. In a bombs away slugfest, Lemieux, 37-3 with 33 knockouts, Montreal, Canada, had the last word. Lemieux landed a straight right, followed by a short power left to the jaw of Curtis Stevens, who had missed wide with a punch and got hit. Stevens, on the ropes, fell anesthetized below the bottom rope of his back, down and out at 1:59 of the third round. Stevens was taken to the hospital immediately on a stretcher. The bout was televised from Turning Stone Casino in Verona, New York, on March 11, 2017.

The bout was interesting while it lasted. Lemieux is bidding for a shot at Canelo Alvarez or a rematch with Gennady Golovkin. Lemieux landed the bigger shots in round one. Stevens really mixed it up in round two, trading power shots with Lemieux. Stevens was perplexed, as his hard punching, which got other opponents out, didn’t phase Lemieux in the slightest. Stevens, 29-6 with 21 knockouts, Brownsville Brooklyn, New York, believed his power superior. In the end, Stevens, nicknamed ‘The Cerebral Assassin’, got a taste of his own medicine. The result might be considered an upset, but then again, the ending was no surprise. Both Lemieux and Stevens punch very hard, and somebody was destined to go.

Result: David Lemieux KO 3 Curtis Stevens, Middleweights (1:59)

Referee: Charlie Fitch

Yurorkis Gamboa Win 10 Rene Alvarado, Lightweights

In prelim bout to main event, Alvarado knocked down Gamboa in tenth round. Referee Benjy Esteves Jr. began the count. Looked more like Gamboa tripped and fell. 10-8 round.
