By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent
Eddie Jaafar Promotions will present a nine bout card of boxing on Sunday, March 26, 2017, at the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center in Dearborn, Michigan, featuring former USBO and WBC USNBC welterweight champion Lanardo Tyner. Former IBF World Super Welterweight champion Cornelius K9 Bundridge, scheduled to appear on the card, sustained a minor wrist injury, so his latest comeback is postponed, but will appear at the card.
Tyner, 31-10-2 with 20 knockouts, Detroit, Michigan, age 41, made a comeback after two years inactivity, and stopped Istvan Dernanecz in the first round at Masonic Temple in Detroit this past January. In one stretch between July 2011 and August 2012, Tyner fought sic fighters with a combined record of 90 wins, no defeats and one draw. One of these men, who Tyner knocked out in the first round, Charles Hatley, is fighting Jermell Charlo for the WBC World Super Middleweight title next month. Tyner has consistently fought the best fighters in the world in the 147 pound welterweight weight class during his 13 year career.
In the six round main event, Tyner will face tough Luis Eduardo Florez, a former Columbian and WBA Fedebol lightweight champion, 22-5 with 18 knockouts, Puerto Liberador, Columbia. It is a surprise Tyner is taking a step up bout against the dangerous Flores, who is 13 years younger than Tyner. Flores is coming off a third round knockout win over Gustavo Vega in Columbia this past December. Flores has a 67% (2 of 3 ratio) knockout percentage in the ring. Tyner is predicted to win by a close but unanimous six round decision he is going to have to fight for.
In the preliminary bout to the main event, Saginaw, Michigan featherweight southpaw Ernesto Garza III, 7-2 with four knockouts, is predicted to win by six round decision over 2-1-1 Jesus ‘Chewy’ Rojas, of Columbus, Ohio, who is making a comeback after three years out of the ring.
The card will feature six undercard four round bouts.
8-0-1 Toledo, Ohio, super middleweight prospect DeAndre Ware will face 23-30-2 Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania tested journeyman Rayco Saunders, age 24. Journeyman Saunders, who turned pro in August 2002, has gone the distance in professional bouts 40 times. Ware is predicted to win a six round decision in a bout which will be fought at the 175 pound light heavyweight limit. Fremont, Ohio, female super featherweight Alycia Baumgardner will make per pro debut against 0-1 Wendy Toney of Spokane, Washington. Baumgardner is predicted to win by four round decision, two minute rounds. 4-0 Detroit heavy weight Marcus Carter is predicted to win by second round knockout over 2-4 Davenport, Iowa heavyweight Eric Cason. 1-0 welterweight prospect Cortez Chambliss of Madison Heights, Michigan is predicted to win by first round stoppage over 0-5 Dean Walsh Jr. of Monroe, Michigan. In a rematch of a super middleweight ‘No Contest’ result, Dearborn, Michigan light heavyweight Sinan Fradi, 1-0, is predicted to win by second round stoppage over 0-4 Brian Jackson of Port Huron, Michigan. In a cruiserweight slugfest, Taylor Grey Duerr, 2-0-1 with two knockouts, Owosso, Michigan, is predicted to win by first round stoppage over 0-1 Troy Albring of Mount Morris, Michigan. 5-0 Detroit welterweight prospect Janelson Bocachica is favored by four round decision over 3-9 Darryl Humphrey of Mount Morris, Michigan.
